Lil Wayne's upcoming MTV "Unplugged" performance is shaping up to be so epic it's left the MC himself in amazement. Recently the larger than life rapper sealed history again performing on the highly praised franchise in an upcoming episode airing on the network on June 12th.
Following the taping of his performance Weezy spoke on his latest accolade.
“It was humbling just to be a part of" Wayne told the Los Angeles Times. "As an artist that’s watched the game as closely as I did, to be on ‘Unplugged’ is a high honor. I’ve gotten people that haven’t texted me in a long time, text me today saying congratulations. It is that kind of thing. I felt great about it.”
The program, which is set to premiere across MTV2, MTV and MTV.com on Sunday, June 12 at 9 PM ET/PT, will feature Tunechi performing acoustic versions of select hits from his classic catalog.
The show will be MTV's first televised rap unplugged concert since Jay-Z's 2001 special and come 20 years after LL Cool J, A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul appeared on the original Yo! Unplugged Rap.
With over ten million records sold, critical acclaim and adoration from the streets, Wayne, who has blurred the boundaries of rap, rock and pop, seemed like the perfect choice for the next installment in MTV's groundbreaking series.
